Plumes Small Signal Shredder The Plumes is a low to medium gain overdrive based on the trusty lime-green overdrive that has been an industry staple since its inception. This is the kind of overdrive that works in conjunction with a good valve amp to create the warm saturation people like to call “transparent”. We’ve raised the input impedance to a whopping 10 megaohms for a stronger signal with more clarity and chime. We’ve also adjusted the cutoff of the tone control to deliver a more useful range of travel with more booming bass on the low end without sacrificing the cutting midrange and bright top end. Last, but certainly not least, the Plumes offers three different clipping options to ensure that it will work with a wide variety of gear and playing styles. Mode 1 is symmetrical clipping utilizing a pair of light emitting diodes. This is the crunchiest setting the Plumes has to offer. When played through a clean amp, it’ll deliver a reasonable facsimile of that classic crunchy valve amp tone. Mode 2 is clean boost mode. This eliminates the soft clipping diodes altogether and leaves you with straight OpAmp drive. The “Amplitude” side is faithfully modeled after the classic “White Face” distortion unit, using modern, reliable components to last a lifetime. The only modifications made to the original circuit are in the clipping section. The traditional circuit uses a single pair of silicon diodes for a tight, compressed crunch. As with version 2, Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 offers two additional clipping options to better adapt to different rigs. The first position is no diodes to allow for full, grinding Op Amp assault at maximum volume. The second position utilizes two silicon diodes and one LED in an asymmetrical clipping configuration. This delivers a slightly compressed and smooth crunch, similar to a valve amplifier. The last position is the stock double silicon diode configuration which provides that classic tone you know and love. The Octave in Life Pedal is an all-discrete, analog full-wave rectifier base on a classic vintage design. Located at the input of the circuit, the Octave control slowly blends in the octave effects as you turn it clockwise. This feature can also be used via expression control allowing for wild, hands-free octave swells mid-riff or using the footswitch for immediate octave fuzz destruction. Because this is an analog octave effect, it is monophonic and works best playing single notes above the twelfth fret while using the neck pickup. Playing chords with the analog octave will sound clanging and chaotic. Using the bridge pickup and playing below the twelfth fret will produce a very subtle octave effect. Going full Octave transforms Life Pedal from a simple distortion device into a swelling, raging fuzz similar to the classic Super Fuzz! The “Magnitude” section of Life Pedal is a simple all-discrete MOSFET booster designed to blast your preamp tubes and drive them wild. It is a 100% clean, no-nonsense, high impedance booster that adds very little color to your tone. It does not add distortion on its own but has plenty of output to push your amp into saturation. Want that defined sparkle and tightness of an overdrive? This has it. Want that low-medium gain fuzz that’s perfect for drop tuned guitars and basses? This has it. Want to be able to dial in and control every nuance of your tone from jangly on-the-verge of break up to blowing the walls out heavy saturation? Then this is the pedal for you. This meticulously crafted box has six knobs that allow you to truly customize your sound with the Level, Weight, Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. The red LED light indicates when the distortion is activated by the Flexi-Switch® enabled footswitch. The Gain control on Zoar goes from the edge of break up all the way over the cliff into the crunchy, grinding abyss. The character of the distortion is heavily dependent on the setting of the Weight control as well as your guitar’s pickup type, and it is further fine-tuned by the EQ section. Touch-Sensitive Controls While having its roots in a very familiar past, the passive 3-band EQ has been finely tuned for modern tones. While this style of tone shaping seems simple on the surface, it is deceptively complex and highly interactive. The 3-band EQ and Gain controls give you nearly unlimited options with great focus and sensitive precision, but the real powerhouse of Zoar is the Weight control. This control dictates the amount of low end that is passed into the circuit, thus controlling the entire character of the pedal. From a mere clean boost to a high gain distortion to overdrive to the crispy Hi-Fi fuzz territory, this function gives you everything. The Level control hits unity gain around noon, but this is dependent on where the other controls are set. In addition to controlling the output volume, it also plays a small part in the controlling the voice of Zoar. By adjusting the Level control with any combination of EQ (boosting the frequency bands and cutting the output volume), you can achieve drastically different curves that have the feel of the more traditional low pass filter type tone control. Running Zoar at 18v Want to elevate your sonic spirit to a higher level? Try running Zoar at higher voltage! Zoar can handle power up to 18v DC. Higher voltages will yield a different frequency response with more defined dynamics and a faster response. When powered at 18v, the range of clean tones are widened, dirty tones become punchier with better note articulation, low frequencies are tightened, the Treble control will cover a broader spectrum without becoming harsh and the output volume nearly doubles! The experience is not unlike plugging into a wall of high wattage tube amplifiers! Controls: Level: Adjusts the output volume. Weight: This is an input frequency control that changes the voice and saturation of the distortion. Turning Weight clockwise allows more low frequencies to pass through. This increases the gain, allows lower frequencies to clip faster and can shift the tone of the pedal from tight distortion to a loose fuzz. Gain: Turn clockwise to increase distortion. This adjusts the transistor bias. A little static sound when turning is completely normal. Bass: Passive bass control, adjusts the low frequency content between 0 and 800Hz +/- 15dB. Middle: Passive middle control, adjusts the midrange frequency content between 500Hz and 3kHz +/- 10dB. Electro Harmonix PI 2 Dual OP-Amp Fuzz Fuzzpedal, doble OP-forsterkere, True Bypass, Latch/Unlatch fotbrytermoduser Grunnlegger og administrerende direktør i Electro-Harmonix, Mike Matthews, og Bob Myer har en lang historie sammen. Det var disse to som designet den aller første Big Muff-fuzzen. Bob kom ofte til Mike med forslag til forbedringer og nye produkter, og det viser seg at noen blir glemt der og da, mens andre blir hengende etter ... helt til nå. Big Muff Pi 2 er nettopp et slikt produkt som har ligget i Bobs arkiver siden slutten av 70-tallet. Det var da Josh Scott (JHS Pedals) og Daniel Danger intervjuet Bob om hans historie med Electro Harmonix at historien om den "tapte" Pi 2-modellen kom frem i lyset. Ved hjelp av dokumenter i Bobs arkiver fortsatte Josh arbeidet, og etter mange års venting har Big Muff Pi 2 endelig sett dagens lys. Big Muff Pi 2 har et unikt Big Muff-design basert på doble OP-forsterkerkretser som på mange måter ligner Big Muff Pi, men har sin egen karakter og som gir deg en grunn til å fylle ut fuzz-paletten din ytterligere. Mye sustain, mye gain, sprø topp og en fuzz-effekt som ikke kutter like fint som Big Muff Pi, noe som gir Pi-2 en tone som ikke er like het som Pi-modellen, noe som gir en litt mer "fuzzy" tone med mye sustain. Kontrollene er Volum, Tone og Sustain, og formatet er fra Elektro Harmonix Nano-utgaven, hvor det kosmetiske designet ble utviklet av Daniel Danger. Sustain-kontrollen regulerer mengden sustain og distortion, fra en litt skitten lyd til full fuzz-fury. Med tonekontrollen justeres både bass- og diskantregistrene samtidig. Hvis du skrur opp diskanten, vil bassregisteret automatisk skrus ned, og omvendt. En funksjon som lar tonen din gå fra den veldig bitende diskanten til den virkelig fete, gjørmete tonen. Volumkontrollen regulerer hvor sterkt utgangssignalet skal være fra pedalen.
