The pedal that inspired this circuit has been around for a long time in various forms but most versions of it have too much of a "Hi Fi" sound about them, they fail to get the right mix of clarity and bass that is needed to make this overdrive sing. Brian has added further gain capabilities to this circuit, and added a bass control that controls all the harmonics from smooth and creamy to tight and crunchy. The sound this circuit delivers is a firm favorite in Nashville and Brian Wampler’s take is everything you would expect it to be – high quality components, a beautiful enclosure, and a glorious tone. If you set the gain low and the bass control up high, you get a wonderful clean boost sound that can rival any Klone circuit, but when you spin the bass down and the gain all the way up, you suddenly find yourself with an awesome transparent overdrive / medium distortion sound with all the crunch you need. It's true, at a gig Brian once threw a modified pedal at the feet of Brad Paisley in the hope that he would pick it up and try it. Fortunately for us, and you, Brad’s tech picked it up, played it - digged it and gave it to Brad who took it away and LOVED it. From that point on, he has used and loved Wampler Pedals. After a few years of using our pedals (Ego, Underdog and Faux AnalogEcho) Brad’s tech at the time, Chad, mentioned to Brian that Brad wasn’t 100% content with his tone and maybe we should all work together to make the perfect overdrive for Brad to record and tour with. His requirements were quite "simple"… it needs to be clean but get crunchy with some "beef" to it. It needs to have a fluid tone when soloing. It needs to add a little hair to the tone but then but then has to be able to give flat out ball busting gain, oh… but please do not wreck the tonality. It needs to have everything, in a pedal format, but do not make it sound like a pedal! Over a period of months, Brian made some circuits and sent them off, there were a couple of "tweaks" here and there to be made and then finally, when official "prototype v2.0" landed, it went straight into the live rack and out on the 2010 "Brad Paisley: H20" world tour. Brad Paisley: "…we actually recorded this (pedal) in the studio, you know, trying it out. I turned up a Trainwreck Amp that I’ve got and compared the sound of the distortion and it was very, very similar. And that’s a very good test because any time a pedal can mimic a great overdriven amp then you’re on to something…"

Blues and non-blues guitar players have used TS type circuits for years to help them create their personal signature sound. Over the years, countless players have been asking Brian to create that world famous vintage mid-range overdrive – well he finally did it! The Clarksdale is our take on that world famous lime green overdrive many of us have come to love – with a few great Wampler styled improvements of course. The world of boutique pedals is filled with lots of great clones of that already famous circuit– so what else could be done? We wanted to create a pedal that would be true to the sound and feel of the original but would have a wider range of tonal options – to satisfy even the biggest tone chasers out there. The addition of a 3 band EQ (Bass, Mids are active, and the Treble is similar to the classic TS tone pot) it allows a player to have a more tailored tonal pallet than the original. The Lift/Smooth switch will also allow a player to either sit in the mix with the Smooth setting or allow your leads to standout with the Lift option. Also unlike the original "green giant" the Clarksdale will not "fizz out" as much at low or high gain settings. The Clarksdale has one foot in the past and one foot firmly planted in the future.
